“Ten years ago, a man wearing a plain V-neck tee and drinking a Pabst would never be accused of being a trend-follower. But in 2008, such things have become shameless clichés of a class of individuals that seek to escape their own wealth and privilege by immersing themselves in the aesthetic of the working class.”

The past week has been so crazy busy for us! You’ve read about Dan working on the new launch of the Detroit Urban Craft Fair site - you can read about Cityfest and the latest Baar Bazaar (which was Saturday) on the Reware Vintage blog!

Trying to get back in the habit of posting more regularly… With the Olympics coming up (AWESOME), here’s a set of Otl Aicher’s posters for the 1972 Games in Munich. Some of my absolute favorite design work. (via Coudal)

Found this while beating my head against the desk because multiple stylesheets weren’t working. This might be old hat to some of you superstars, but I had no idea that the presence of a title attribute in the stylesheet link could set a preferred CSS file and even prevent stylesheet’s from being applied altogether.

I guess you learn something new every day.

I used to love Green Day. Actually, I take that back. I still love Green Day’s old stuff. Kerplunk is a classic and Dookie is still great, but as they kept releasing albums, I cared less and less. I never thought much about it until I was talking to Beth the other night and it just clicked. Green Day is exactly like Van Halen.

Hear me out. Green Day’s early/good records (1000 Hours - Dookie) are like Van Halen with David Lee Roth. Upbeat, catchy and energetic songs. Bands having fun and really enjoying making music. Contrast that with the Green Day of the last four or five years (the American Idiot era). These guys are like the Sammy Hagar version of Van Halen. Like, “I’ve been listening to Diamond Dave for all these years, and now I’m supposed to take this asshole seriously?!” Sorry, if they’ve “evolved” or “grown-up”, but ever since we were supposed to take this guy’s political opinions seriously, his songs have gotten a lot worse.

Obviously, I’m wrong here, because 15 year-olds bought their last album em masse, but then again, what the hell do 15 year-olds know?

Bravo, Jenny Hart for writing a great reminder to those of us who work for ourselves, and a good description of what we deal with every day for those who don’t and think we just sit on the couch making money all day.

I stopped on the way home from work for an oil change. The kid mistook my transmission plug for my oil plug and accidentally drained all of my trans fluid.

“No big deal. Looks like you get a free transmission flush!” says the manager as he mistakes my front differential for my transmission and tops that off with FUCKING TRANSMISSION FLUID, leaving me with an empty transmission and a differential overfilled with the wrong fluid.

You just can’t find good help anymore…

“In 2007, out of the 32 industrialized countries surveyed by the International Energy Agency, only one (Mexico) had cheaper gasoline than the United States.” True? Sure… but that doesn’t change the fact that I’m spending $500+ a month on gas.
