Really creative ligatures in a new VW campaign, meant to demonstrate their smooth-shifting electronic transmissions. An excellent example that simple, minimal design can also be very exciting and effective. (via ilovetypography)

Absolutely pathetic advice from the Wall Street Journal on How to Create a Successful Web Site For Nothing (or Almost Nothing). I love how the author refers to HTML as “essentially, a bunch of gobbledygook words and symbols” and adding a shopping cart to your site as an additional “flourish”. Totally clueless.

Just launched the redesign of GM’s FYI Blog: A Josh Weston/Matt Mayers/Dan Nixon/MS&L Digital joint.

I know I’m just posting music videos lately, but whatever…
A fantastic video for anyone who had a Sega Genesis. Don’t know how this band slipped by me. I think I’d like to go check them out at the Crofoot next month.

Redesigned for no good reason
All right, for the thousands of you that only read this site via RSS (Hi, all five of you!), it’s time to have another look at Turbo Claw in your favorite browser (unless your favorite browser begins with “Internet Explorer”, which I can’t even be bothered to test in… unless I’m on the clock, of course!).
The new design, “3D!”, is a purely CSS-only redesign, Zen Garden style; I didn’t touch the markup a bit. As such, it’s not much more than fast-forwarding the old design a bit, rather than a total facelift.
Anyway, like it or not, blah, blah, blah… A style switcher is the next project.

“Ten years ago, a man wearing a plain V-neck tee and drinking a Pabst would never be accused of being a trend-follower. But in 2008, such things have become shameless clichés of a class of individuals that seek to escape their own wealth and privilege by immersing themselves in the aesthetic of the working class.”

Dan’s Sweet-Sweet-Ass Summer Jam Mix, Track #1:
Tim Armstrong - Into Action
Beth and I have been spending a ton of time on the road this summer, and consequently, listening to a lot of music. Our last road trip down south got me thinking about putting together a mix CD (Sorry, hipsters - I know a mix TAPE is much more authentic and meaningful, but welcome to 15 years ago and fuck off) of only the hardest summer jams.
Because I’m a music snob and totally convinced that my musical taste is superior to yours, I’ve picked the first track on your Sweet-Sweet-Ass Summer Jam Mix: Tim Armstrong’s Into Action. If you occasionally long for the long lost, 3rd wave ska filled glory days of the late ’90’s, like at least one of my pals, this is right up your alley… Only SO much more fun than you remember!
